RIDGWAY — The National Utility Contractors Association (NUCA) Pennsylvania has announced that Allegheny Contracting LLC of Ridgway has been awarded the association’s 2016 Safety Award for medium companies (50,001 to 150,000 man hours).
Allegheny Contracting has won the award seven times previously, most recently in 2015. Other awards in the small company category (up to 50,000 man hours) came in 2004, 2005, 2008, 2010 and 2011, and an award in the medium company category in 2013.
Allegheny Contracting was founded in 1997 by Brent Buehler as a one man, one vehicle operation. It now employs a team of 103 people and uses a fleet of excavation equipment and trucks to provide a variety of general contracting services to a broad customer base in Pennsylvania.
Much of the firm’s work is in the natural gas distribution industry, servicing both public utilities and the private sector. The company provides utility contracting and pipeline services, land development and management, industrial and commercial services and directional drilling.
Officials said Allegheny Contracting earned the 2016 safety award based upon the company’s excellent safety record, as well as its safety programs, communication, training and education.
NUCA Pennsylvania has an extensive set of criteria and a thorough review process of safety practices that it employs to select its safety award winners.
According to the company, maintaining a meticulous safety culture and focusing on customer service are among the keys to its growth, as well as its professional and dedicated team, which has a commitment to safety and quality.
A company spokesperson said Allegheny Contracting’s emphasis on safety is the uppermost priority in everyone’s minds every day. The company holds several safety meetings a year and routinely sends employees to professionally-sponsored safety training classes.
Employees take pride in their appearance and maintain the fleet of equipment in clean and neat condition. In addition, every member of the team is recognized for his or her strengths and team members are encouraged to strive to have a positive impact on their fellow workers and the public each and every day.
Brent Buehler is married to Patricia and has two children, Chandler and Jacob.
