SMETHPORT — An Eldred man is facing criminal allegations that he left the scene of a crash that injured his passenger.
Todd Shayne Ladlee, 52, of Eldred, was arraigned Wednesday before District Judge William Todd on charges of accidents involving death or personal injury, a first-degree misdemeanor; accidents involving damage to an attended vehicle or property, a third-degree misdemeanor; and the following summary charges: improper tires, failure to keep right, disregarding traffic lanes, driving at a safe speed, careless driving, failure to stop and give information/render aid and failure to notify police of an accident involving injury or death, court records stated.
According to court records, at 11:31 p.m. Oct. 11, Kane-based state police received a call about a one-vehicle rollover crash on Route 646 in Keating Township in which the driver abandoned an injured passenger.
A short time later, police talked to the passenger, Rose Strait, who said Ladlee picked her up in Bradford and was taking her home. “Strait remembered hearing glass breaking and not being able to free herself from the vehicle. Strait stated she remembered Ladlee telling her, ‘I have to go. I cannot get a DUI’ and seeing him run into a wooded area,” court records read.
Strait suffered minor injuries in the crash, according to court records.
Ladlee is free on $2,000 unsecured bail, and he is scheduled to appear in Central Court on Nov. 17.
