ST. MARYS — Charles Marohn, president of Strong Towns, a national non-profit working to strengthen financial resilience in America’s towns and cities, will give a public presentation in St. Marys as well as hold private meetings with local leaders on Nov. 17.
Marohn will host a free, public Curbside Chat from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at The Highlands (formerly the St. Marys Country Club), located at 535 South Michael St.
Organizers said the classic Strong Towns talk, which has been given in dozens of cities across the country, is centered on the question, “Why, despite all the growth America has experienced, do our cities struggle financially just to accomplish basic tasks?” Marohn will cover topics like America’s Suburban Experiment, mechanisms of growth, and incremental and traditional development models.
In the second half of the presentation, Marohn will specifically speak about issues in St. Marys and open the floor for discussion with attendees. Public officials and local change-advocates are especially invited to attend.
As part of his visit, Marohn will also lead private meetings with local government leaders, chamber of commerce members and non-profit leaders.
His visit is sponsored and hosted by the City of St. Marys.
