EMPORIUM — Cameron County Commissioners hosted several visitors during Thursday’s meeting, as part of an effort to highlight more county programs.

Prothonotary Mary Grace Olay discussed the Baskets of Hope fundraiser held through October at the courthouse. Employees from a number of offices created large baskets, and tickets were sold for $1 each at the prothonotary’s office last month. One of the “baskets” was actually a fire pit stuffed full of camping and outdoor-themed items. Money raised through Baskets of Hope is donated to local residents battling cancer. Courthouse employees wore pink every week throughout the event and even the outdoor lighting was tinted pink in honor of “Pinktober.”
Heidi Aikens, director of the Cameron County Family Center, and Children & Youth Services Director Shirley Wolfe gave updates on their respective departments; Jessica Herzing of Schager CPA attended to discuss a new program that will be implemented in the coming months, and Cliff Clark, county economic director, gave an update on completion of the next phase of the West Creek Rail Trail, which will span the distance between Emporium and St. Marys once all work has been completed.
A notice of intent for coverage under the erosion control and sedimentation general permit (ESCGP-2) was received from Stahl Sheaffer Engineering on behalf of Seneca Resources for C08-F and the Rich Valley Impoundment in Shippen Township.
Commissioners approved the 2016-2018 Cameron County Housing Rehabilitation Program professional services contract with Gelsick Home Inspection LLC, of St. Marys at a cost of $800 per home for the 2015 HOME grant.
The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) State Fiscal Year 2016-2017 Hazardous Material Response Fund Grant agreement in the amount of $583 was approved.
