HARRISBURG — Legislation sponsored by state Rep. Kathy Rapp, R-Warren, which will eliminate veterans’ disability payments from income eligibility under the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program (House Bill 683) was signed into law on Wednesday and will take effect in 60 days.
The Property Tax/Rent Rebate program benefits eligible Pennsylvanians who are 65 years or older, widows and widowers 50 years or older, and those 18 years or older with permanent disabilities. Eligible participants can receive a rebate of up to $650 based on their rent or property taxes paid during the previous year.
“I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Warren County veteran David Steinhauser for bringing the need for this new law to my attention,” said Rapp. “For far too many veterans, the inclusion of these legitimately earned disability payments as income unfairly disqualifies them from receiving property tax or rent relief under the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program. As always, I am deeply humbled to advance legislation that in some way can help to ease the financial burdens that impact our military heroes and their families across this Commonwealth.”
