ST. MARYS (EC) — A Force woman is currently facing charges in district court after allegedly stealing a check and using it to buy $15 worth of gasoline.
Kayla Michele Nero, 35, has been charged with a felony count of forgery, a misdemeanor count of theft by deception, misdemeanor count of receiving stolen property, and a summary offense of bad checks.
An affidavit of probable cause outlining the charges was obtained from the office of Magisterial District Judge Mark S. Jacob.
According to the affidavit, troopers were called to Friday Gas and Oil, Inc. in Jay Township on Nov. 2 for a report of a forged check for $15 worth of gasoline. Police contacted the woman whose name was on the check, and she denied writing it. The victim said Nero has been to her house on several occasions and could have stolen it.
Officers were able to interview Nero on Sept. 4. She denied the allegations, but stopped talking when police told her she had been identified by the gas attendant, court records read. She is scheduled to appear before Jacob on Nov. 19 at 3 p.m. for a preliminary hearing.
Online court documents do not list an attorney for Nero.
