A bridge being replaced along Olean Road in Foster Township is slated to open next month, a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation official reported on Wednesday.
“The bridge was not closed but has been replaced in a half-width configuration,” PennDOT spokeswoman Marla Fannin said. “Temporary traffic signals have enforced an alternating traffic pattern.”
Bob Cummins Construction has been working since the spring on the project that is costing just under $1.4 million.
The bridge, which spans Foster Brook/Pennbrook Run, is on track for a Dec. 2 completion; however, the bridge is scheduled to open to traffic in mid-November, Fannin said.
“After it’s fully open to traffic, completion work will continue for a few weeks –– most likely under intermittent traffic,” Fannin said.
The new bridge will replace one constructed in 1930 and will remove the bridge from the county’s structurally deficient bridge list. The bridge carries an average of more than 1,300 vehicles daily, she said.
Fannin said she hasn’t received any traffic complaints directly.
“Our project inspectors typically handle field complaints directly and do a terrific job with those issues,” she said.
The bridge work is part of the Pennsylvania Rapid Bridge Replacement Project.
