No one was injured in a school bus incident in Lafayette Township on Tuesday when a clamp had come off the vehicle’s heater hose, a school administrator reported Wednesday.
The incident, which caused billowing smoke to rise from the bus and students to be evacuated from it, occurred around 4:40 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of U.S. Route 219 and Route 59. The bus that contained the girls volleyball team was on the way to a match in St. Marys.
“The driver followed proper safety protocols and pulled off the roadway and evacuated the students,” said Bradford Area School District Superintendent Katy Pude.
Another bus was dispatched to transport the student-athletes to the game, she said.
“We are so thankful for the quick response of the first responders to the bus and the genuine concern of the many people who assisted in this incident,” Pude said.
