Bradford High sophomore Hunter Fox came up short in his bid to win a District 9 Class AAA golf title Saturday at Bavarian Hills Golf Course.
Fox, who started Saturday tied for first place with DuBois High’s Drew Canter, carded a score of 98 to finish with a two-day total of 183 for fourth place.
“Hunter had an excellent season,” Bradford coach Travis Faulkner said. “He started the season with very little experience in golf and finished fourth in the district, which is very impressive for a first-year golfer.”
Commenting on Saturday’s performance, Faulkner said, ”Hunter ran into some trouble with the wet conditions, but I’m proud of his season.”
Canter captured the AAA title (85-84-169).
Meantime, Ben Ames of Ridgway won the Class AA title.
Six additional golfers (five in AA and one in AAA) also qualified for the Western Regional championship.
The additional regional qualifiers in Class AA were Jonah Meyer of Elk Catholic, Kolby Montgomery of A-C Valley/Union, Weston Kimmey of Moniteau, Nick Simon of Ridgway and Lucas Ambler of Punxsutawney.
In Class AAA, Joe Hnat of DuBois High also qualified for the regional.
Ames beat Meyer by six shots. Ames had a two-round total of 159. Meyer had a total of 165.
Montgomery was third at 167 followed by Kimmey at 171, Simon at 173 and Ambler at 175.
Canter beat teammate Hnat by nine shots, 169 to 178 in Class AAA.
The Western Regional for AA and AAA will be Oct. 17 at Tom’s Run Golf Resort in Blairsville.
