JOHNSONBURG — Sexual assault charges from two cases against a Wilcox man were bound to Elk County Court Wednesday before District Judge James Martin, court records indicate.
According to court records, Charles W. Steele, 50, appeared in Johnsonburg for preliminary hearings in both cases, in which he faces a total of 530 counts for allegations he sexually assaulted at least one child.
In the first case, filed on May 9, Steele is charged with five counts each of aggravated indecent assault of a child, all first-degree felonies; aggravated indecent assault of a person less than 13 years old, all second-degree felonies; corruption of minors and indecent assault of a person less than 13 years old, all first-degree misdemeanors, court records stated.
Meanwhile, court records state that in the second case, filed May 23, he is charged with 10 counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child and 100 counts of aggravated indecent assault of a child, all first-degree felonies; 100 counts each of aggravated indecent assault without consent and aggravated indecent assault of a person less than 13 years old, all second-degree felonies; 100 counts each of indecent assault of a person less than 13 years old and corruption of minors, all first-degree misdemeanors.
Court records indicate the allegations occurred between 2001 and 2008 in Jones Township.
Steele — who is free, having posted 10 percent of $100,000 bail in one case and being granted $25,000 unsecured bail in the second — is scheduled for a formal arraignment in Elk County Court on Aug. 1.
