OLEAN, N.Y. — The Greater Olean Area Home Show, sponsored by the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce and 50 corporate sponsors, is scheduled to be held from Friday through Sunday at the William O. Smith Recreation Center, 551 East State St. in Olean, across from Bradner Stadium.
Show hours will be 5 to 9 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
This year’s show will feature a wide variety of products and ideas for the do-it-yourselfers, interior decorating trends, contractor services, energy-saving products, lawn and garden equipment, room additions, replacement and new windows, doors, siding, roofing, fireplaces, bathrooms, kitchens and more.
Each night of the show will have a theme, organizers said.
On Friday night there will be a wine and brew walk. Participants will be able to enjoy tastes from New York state wineries and breweries. Those attending will receive one free taste ticket, with additional tickets available for purchase.
Meanwhile, a handyman contest will be held on Saturday. Each contestant has three fix it challenges. The one who completes in the quickest time with satisfaction from the judges wins.
Lastly, giveaways will be held on Sunday. In addition to the show grand prize, the home show will give away gift certificates from the home show vendors every 30 minutes on Sunday.
The Cattaraugus County Health Department will also host a water tasting test in the lobby on Saturday during the Home Show. Attendees can sample and vote for the best tasting municipal water in Cattaraugus County.
Each year, the home show has a show theme and show colors. This year, the overall show theme is “GET Inspired, GET Started.” The show will have a plum and charcoal color scheme that plays a part in the judging criteria.
Organizers said the show will also have seminars/demos throughout the weekend. On Friday, the schedule includes Creating a Pollinator Friendly Habitat with Maggie Smith of the Enchanted Mountains Garden Club; and GROW IT, COOK IT, EAT IT: Shanna Miller of Miller’s Farm Market in Olean will speak and discuss a few easy dishes with garden veggies and also talk about a few herbs too.
On Saturday, the following seminars will be held: “Home Tweet Home” Bluebird Nest Box Building; and Think Spring, Think Pruning! by Joe Schueckler, master forest owner and personal grounds keeper of his own estate, who will guide participants through the pruning techniques needed to create a home’s perfect surroundings. Equipment will be on hand to share, but if participants have their own pruning tools, bring them along.
Also on Saturday, Jody Silvis of Inspired by Peaches will lead a workshop on Re-Purpose, Re-Paint, Re-Sell Good Finds, which will be on how to make re-creations for a person’s home. Home Depot officials will also explain painting techniques. Participants will learn decorative interior painting tips and tricks that will give any room a designer style and personality.
Rounding out the weekend on Sunday, the schedule includes: DIY Projects to Refresh Your Space on a Budget and Stripping and Staining Your Deck. Tara Zak will demonstrate how to transform a kitchen without spending a ton of money. Meanwhile, John Costik from Home Depot will show how easy it is to strip and stain a deck for the summer season.
Organizers said this year’s food concession will be Randy’s Up the River offering chili, hot dogs, Philly cheese steak, pasta salad, nachos, and more.
Admission to the show is $3 for adults; $2 for students and seniors; and children age 11 and under will be admitted for free.
