Officials need help celebrating the 200th anniversary of Roulette Township in Potter County.
Things are just beginning to take form for the bicentennial event, and township secretary-treasurer Nita Spencer said people are needed to help organize the event planned this summer.
Plans call to coordinate the event with the Roulette Fire Department’s fireworks on July 9. The activities, which might be held over one or two days, could include a parade, games and more, she said.
“We’d love to have a town coordination. Maybe the Chamber of Commerce, some businesses,” she said.
Thus far, one vendor inquired about being part of the celebration. But more people are needed, she said.
Roulette Township got its start Jan. 29, 1916, after being formed out of Eulalia Township. Originally, the township was named Roulet in honor of John Sigmund Roulet, an associate of land developer John Keating. The spelling change is believed to have been made by the Post Office Department, according to an online resource.
Those looking to help should contact the township office at 814-544-7549 during the hours of 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
