STARDUST: A memorial to late British rocker David Bowie has cropped up right here in Pennsylvania.
On Saturday, people were invited to a memorial ceremony for Bowie at Andy Warhol’s gravesite in Bethel Park, near Pittsburgh. The event was streamed live on the Internet courtesy of EarthCam. You can watch live footage of the site here: http://www.earthcam.com/usa/pennsylvania/pittsburgh/warhol/.
Meanwhile, Bowie fans are reportedly visiting the gravesite and leaving trinkets in his memory. Event organizers didn’t say in the release that any permanent memorial to Bowie would be created in Bethel Park.
We don’t know why the location was chosen for the memorial event, but Bowie did write a song the late artist simply titled “Andy Warhol.”
As for Bowie’s own burial site, that hasn’t been publicly announced. He’s been cremated but it doesn’t sound like his final resting place will be revealed to fans any time soon. Some articles have speculated his ashes will be spread at a location in nearby New York state.
ROUTE 6: For all of our readers who love to take a leisurely drive on the weekend and take in the regional sites, a new magazine will be published on U.S. Route 6.
A press release on the Route 6 magazine states, “In 2016, travelers will be able to pick up a new magazine focusing on the activities, attractions and stories across U.S. Route 6 in Pennsylvania.” The highway crosses the top of Pennsylvania, cutting through McKean and Potter counties on the way.
The project was started because of the number of people asking for a detailed description of the highway and its offerings, according to Terri Dennison, executive director of the alliance.
Look for the magazine in March at places like Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Welcome Centers, visitor centers, AAA locations and other travel-related spots. It will be available online at www.paroute6.com.
Working together on the project are the PA Route 6 Alliance, 10 county convention and visitor bureaus along the northern tier and Beagle Media LLC of Wellsboro.
