COUDERSPORT — Cole Memorial Hospital Care Manager Amy J. Powell, RN, BSN, ACM, has successfully completed the National Board for Case Management’s process to become an Accredited Case Manager.
Hospital officials said the benefits of the designation for patients are many. Certification validates a case manager’s knowledge, competency and skills. Case managers holding an Accredited Case Manager credential have proven they are especially equipped to provide case management services with a health care delivery system.
Initial requirements for the certification include a valid and current license to practice in their state of residence as a Registered Nurse. Social workers must have a degree from an accredited school of social work at the bachelor’s or master’s level. Both registered nurses and social workers must have a minimum two years’ experience in hospital/health system case management.
“I will continue to keep up to date on the most current practices for case management practices in order to maintain my certification, thus being able to offer my patients and families the best alternatives and opportunities available in this always changing health care system,” said Powell.
The Accredited Case Manager credential is valid for a four-year period. To recertify, 40 hours of continuing education are required.
