Thank you Buffalo for chicken wings, beef on weck and beating the New York Jets on Sunday.
I haven’t rooted for those sad sacks since O.J. Simpson played in the late seventies, but there were more important fish to fry.
The Pittsburgh Steelers qualified for the National Football League playoffs and the Jets did not as quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick couldn’t remember which jerseys to throw on those three fourth-quarter interceptions. Thank you, Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Let’s rewind to 1969-77 when Buffalo had a mediocre team (again) despite Simpson rushing for 2,003 yards in 1973. And if my math is correct, in that nine-year span Buffalo mustered a lone playoff appearance in ‘74 and that was a loss to the Steelers.
I tried to make a couple of trips to Orchard Park every year until I realized there were more physical altercations in the restrooms than there were on the field. Have another beer.
Although back in those days it was exciting to see the elusive, slashing style of Simpson toting that pigskin.
The blurb on Wikipedia says “Orenthal James Simpson is a retired American football player, broadcaster and convicted felon currently incarcerated at the Lovelock Correctional Center in Nevada.” That looks good on the resume.
I’m thinking if I’m ever out that way I’ll stop in to see him. I got a pair of gloves for Christmas that are too small for me.

Who is Doug Martin?
Is he the geek over in accounting with the pencils in his shirt pocket? Could be. But he’s not.
Tampa Bay’s Martin rushed for 1,402 yards to finish behind Adrian Peterson’s 1,485 yards for the NFL ground title.
The casual football fan like you and me never heard of him. We have to get out more.

There was a two-game span last month when Green Bay’s stud linebacker Clay Matthews had no tackles and could’ve suited up in a glass tuxedo.
“Hey. I just washed my hair.”

Did you see the video of Neshaminy head basketball coach Jerry Devine lowering the boom on the referee?
I believe Neshaminy is an old Native American word for “head-butt.”
Neshaminy is located in Bucks County and the local high school has produced NFL kickers Chris and Matt Bahr, Penn State head mentor James Franklin and Cleveland Indians’ pitcher Len Barker who pitched a perfect game in 1981.
And now you know the rest of the story.

Hahahahahahahahahaha.
I couldn’t stop laughing at a press release quote regarding the hometown of Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney.
There seems to be mixed emotions in the Crimson Tide-loyal Alabama town of Pelham for the big game on Monday.
One fan said he wanted Alabama to win and for Dabo to do well
Now here’s the resident’s quote and try to use a southern accent when you read it.
“So we’ve got ourselves a situation.”
Yes Bubba. Y’all got that.
