JERUSALEM (AP) — An Israeli rights group says Israeli security forces in some cases used “excessive and unwarranted” force in killing Palestinians who attacked or were suspected of attacking Israelis during the current wave of violence.
The B’Tselem group said Wednesday that officers used excessive lethal force against Palestinians in at least 12 cases over the past two months.
The group says Israeli troops fired at some Palestinian assailants even after they were wounded and no longer posed a threat. It says in some cases, the troops carried out “summary executions.”
Since mid-September, Palestinians have killed 19 Israelis in near-daily attacks. At least 115 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire, of whom 78 Israel has identified as assailants.
Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld says the police response has been “proportional.”
