GENEVA (AP) — The World Health Organization says it hopes a cease-fire in Yemen will allow for deliveries of needed medical aid into the war-torn country.
As peace talks on Yemen began in Switzerland on Tuesday, WHO’s mission chief for Yemen told reporters in Geneva that both sides had confirmed permissions for “unconditional movement of supplies, personnel and teams to all parts of the country” during the cease-fire.
Dr. Ahmed Shadoul also said 19 supply trucks were ready to move in the Yemeni cities of Sanaa and Aden. He said: “I believe they started today.”
Shadoul cautioned that “this is just a test” to see whether access will truly be granted. He said 150 metric tons (165 tons) of supplies across the Red Sea in Djibouti could be delivered by next week.
