SMETHPORT — The Penn State Extension office will sponsor a well drilling field day from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 22 at the Donald J. Comes Learning Center at 9021 Route 46 in Norwich Township.
Organizers said participants will be able to see a water-well being constructed. Allegany Well Drilling will drill the water well and Penn State Extension Water Resources Extension educator Jim Clark will help explain the process and share Penn State Extension Water Team educational resources as the day proceeds.
Pennsylvania and Alaska are the two states left with no statewide water well construction or location standards and it is important for private water supply owners to be educated about how to properly construct a well, to protect the quality of their finished well water.
The program is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is required by contacting Clark at 814-887-5613, or emailing him at jac20@psu.edu. Interested individuals can also register online atwww.extension.psu.edu/natural-resources/water/events.
