Bradford Township supervisors are still awaiting permits from the state Department of Environmental Protection to start bridge work on Lang Maid Lane and Sleepy Hollow Road.
“We thought by this time of year we’d be halfway through the project by now,” said Supervisor Chairman Steve Mascho said at a meeting Monday evening.
Supervisor Jim Erwin met with the EADS Group in March to facilitate the permitting process, but a backlog of permits is holding up state approval. Erwin said Monday that he’d heard there are approximately 500 bridge rehabilitation projects ongoing throughout the state.
In May the supervisors announced plans to replace both bridges rather than repair them, mainly due to the level of dilapidation of the structures and approval of Act 13 funding from McKean County to finance the projects.
Erwin said new arched concrete structures with an open bottom will be installed.
In other news, supervisors adopted a resolution to enact a sexual harassment policy.
They also moved to advertise for road materials for winter 2015-16.
Mascho took time at the beginning of the meeting to hold a moment of silence for Merle Silvis, who recently passed away after years of service as a code enforcement officer with the township.
“We lost Merle Silvis — he was a good friend, a good employee and an all around good guy,” said Mascho. “He did a great job for us and he is greatly missed. It’s sad to not see him here anymore.”
George Corignani, who has taken over for Silvis as the township’s code enforcement officer, soon after gave his report for the month of July. He said there were seven sale inspections, two rental inspections, three complaints and six complaint rechecks of which five were resolved and the final one will require further action by the end of this week.
Zoning officer Jack Carnes reported six certificates issued during July with approximately $76,000 worth of improvements to the township.
For planning commission, Supervisor Gayle Bauer reported one side lot addition was approved on Minard Run Road.
Supervisors related that a work session was held at 6:30 p.m. Monday for a meeting with the McKean County Redevelopment Authority to discuss recommendations for the upcoming budget to be presented at an upcoming public meeting regarding 2015 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds.
On Wednesday, supervisors will engage in contract negotiations with Teamsters Union representatives.
The next scheduled supervisors’ board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 14.
