AGRICULTURE: Ag Progress Days exposition at Penn State University is happening this weekend, starting today at the Russell E. Larson Agricultural Research Center. It lasts through Monday.
Anyone visiting Penn State will be able to see research on such topics as crop production, woodlot management, wildlife habitats, biofuel feedstocks and water quality, according to Penn State. Attendees will be able to learn about things such as the American chestnut tree, deer, farming different soybean varieties and the value of short rotation woody crops.
Organizers have also announced special activities on farm safety and horses.

POP CULTURE: If you couldn’t travel all the way to southern California for Comic-Con (That’s short for Comic Book Convention) earlier this week, you haven’t missed the opportunity to see some of your favorite science fiction and fantasy personalities.
The second annual Twin Tiers Comic-Con will be happening next month, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 15 at the much-closer First Arena in Elmira, N.Y.
More than 50 guests will be on hand to meet with attendees including artists, writers, celebrities and vendors, according to event organizers.
Actor Verne Troyer will headline the event. You might remember him playing characters such as Griphook from “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” and Mini Me in the “Austin Powers” films.
Also on hand will be writer/director/actor Lloyd Kaufman and two actors from “The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers”: David Yost and Walter Jones.
On the comic book side, guests include artist Arthur Suydam and “The Crow” creator James O’Barr.
And, hey, a replica of the DeLorean time machine from “Back to the Future” will be there, too, along with the “Jurassic Park” Jeep and the “Supernatural” Chevy Impala. That’s about as fun as it gets.
Tickets can be purchased online at www.twintierscomiccon.com or at the First Arena box office at 607-734-7825.
