Rylee Lundgren had a “Senior Night” to remember on Friday.
The Bradford High veteran was the winning pitcher and hit her first career home run to help the winless Lady Owls break a 15-game losing streak with an 11-5 victory over Kane at the Kessel Athletic Complex softball field.
Lundgren, a four-year player, picked up the win in the circle with a six-hitter. She also fanned five batters and issued five walks.
At the plate she helped herself with a three-run home run in the fourth inning which followed a two-run double in the opening frame.
“What a night for our seniors – Rylee, Mary Schroll and Abby Roggenbaum,” said Geraldine Lacney, Bradford coach.
Kane actually took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Lady Owls anwered the challenge with six runs of their own in the bottom of the frame.
Along with Lundgren’s two-run double, they also got an RBI double from Kylee Schaumleffel, who went 2-for-4 in the game.
The Lady Owls tacked on two more runs in the third inning and then put the finishing touches on the victory with Lundgren’s blast in the fourth.
All totaled, the Lady Owls tagged Kane pitchers Sadie Tunall and Baylee Swanson for 15 hits, with Ashley Stoltz going 4-for-4 and Bryn Manion (2-for-4) smacking an RBI double.
“We had to put some hits together and we did that today,” Lacney pointed out. “Eight of the 11 girls who went to the plate got a hit for us.
“We also played well defensively … as solid as we’ve played defense all season,” she added.
Tunall and Swanson issued nine walks in the game and had two strikeouts.
Rachel Morgan was credited with a two-run single for the Lady Wolves in their three-run first inning.
Bradford won’t have a lot of time to celebrate its first win of the season. The Lady Owls return to action today, hosting Otto-Eldred at the Kessel Athletic Complex field starting at 11 a.m.
