The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford in collaboration with Allegheny Underwater will offer a SCUBA diving course from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Thursdays from April 16 to May 21.
The course will be held in Room 165C in the Richard E. and Ruth McDowell Sport and Fitness Center and the Paul C. Duke Aquatic Center on the Pitt-Bradford campus.
Organizers said students will learn the basics of SCUBA diving through the PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) Open Water SCUBA Diver Course. Students will also learn skills in a classroom setting and in confined open-water dives in a pool. Four open water dives will be held to review skills and explore on two additional days.
Students must be 18-years-old and comfortable in the water.
Course includes a textbook, dive computer, student record and log book packed in a crew kit. Tanks, regulators, gauges and buoyancy compensators are provided for all pool sessions.
Organizers said students will be required to provide their own mask, fins and snorkel for the class and should contact the instructor, Greg Souchik at Allegheny Underwater at 181 Main St. in Bradford at 814-362-2642 prior to the class.
Upon completion of the program, each student will receive a “PADI Open Water Diver Certification Card” enabling them to dive almost anywhere in the world.
