GALETON — Brandon Brabham scored a game-high 23 points, but Oswayo Valley had to come up with some big baskets down the stretch to hold off Galeton, 46-44, in North Tier League action Friday night.
The Tigers led by one point, 21-20, at the half despite Brabham’s six 3-point field goals that accounted for 18 of the Green Wave’s points. He finished the game with seven baskets from outside the arc.
“Brabham’s threes did not go uncontested,” said Rick Smith, Galeton coach. “We tried to slow him down in the second half, but the other kids picked up the pace.”
Oswayo Valey outscored Galeton 26-23 in the final two periods to pull out the win.
Jake Batterson led the Tigers offensively with 17 points and he had eight rebounds and four assists. Teammate McKinley Ward scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds.
Also hitting the boards for Galeton were Mitchell Smith with nine rebounds, Amelio Martinez with eight and J.C. Sunderlin with five. Smith was also credited with four assists.
“We led most of the game,” coach Smith continued. “It was a good game. The kids all rebounded well, but they (OV) just made some shots at the end.”
Galeton, now 6-13 overall, travels to Cameron County on Tuesday.
