KANE — Flickerwood Wine Cellars in Kane has received the Best American Wine distinction for its 2013 vintage Whitetail Country Red Wine.
The award was handed out during the 19th annual Pennsylvania Farm Show wine competition.
Flickerwood officials said the wine is a refreshing semi-sweet red wine crafted from the Fredonia grape that is grown in the Lake Erie wine region of Pennsylvania. It has a beautiful color and an unique bouquet and aftertaste of cotton candy.
In addition to the gold medal for the Whitetail Country Red Wine, the winery also brought home some other medals from the Farm Show, including a silver medal for Kinzua Journey; and a bronze for MapleVine, Semi-dry Marechal Foch, and Wilderness Red.
The Best American Wine Award and the other medals were presented by Secretary of Agriculture George Greig. It was announced that 52 Pennsylvania wineries entered a total of 341 varieties.
The award-winning wines along with all of the others offered by Flickerwood are available at the winery in Kane and at their two outlets in Kennett Square and Oxford.
