EMPORIUM — Nate Sestina overcame first-half foul trouble to key a 21-point third quarter that carried Cameron County to a 60-38 non-league basketball win over Brockway Friday night.
Sestina, who finished the game with a double-double with 24 points and 15 rebounds, scored 12 of his points in the third quarter where the Red Raiders opened the second half with a 12-0 run to rally from a one-point (25-24) deficit at halftime.
“Nate got in foul trouble in the first half, but in the second half we came out with unmatched intensity and that took over the game for our guys,” said John Songer, Cameron County coach. “We got our inside out game working and hit shots.”
Also in double figures for Cameron County, now 4-1 on the season, were Keith Spehalski with 17 points, which includes five of the Red Raiders’ six three-point field goals, and four assists and Trae Smith with 13 points. Sestina also had six assists in the game.
“Dominic Guisto played a complete game defensively and offensively tonight,” Songer pointed out. “He was a spark for us.
“I’m really proud of our guys. They withstood some adversity tonight and it was great to get a win before Christmas,” Songer added.
High scorer for the Rovers was Andrew Serafini with 15 points.
Cameron County returns to action on Dec. 26 against Youngsville in the first round of the Sheffield Holiday Tournament.
