WESTFIELD — Led by a solid defensive effort, Oswayo Valley beat Bucktail 41-32 in their season opener at the Jack Bush Tip-Off Tournament at Cowanesque Valley.
Brandon Brabham led the way for the winners with 17 points and 6 rebounds.
OV coach Clark Cummings was very pleased with his club’s defensive effort.
“Any time you start the season off with a win, that’s a good thing,” he said. “We didn’t capitalize on some things offensively and were a little slow out of the gate, but I was very pleased with the defensive effort. To hold an opponent to 32 points on the opening night is hopefully a good sign for the year.”
Leading 22-18 at halftime, the Green Wave outscored Bucktail 17-9 in the third quarter to seize control.
Ricardo Gross contributed 11 rebounds for OV.
