SHIPPENSBURG — Clarion freshman Cameron Grumley, playing in his first collegiate game, scored 14 points as the Golden Eagles beat Felician 89-76 in the first round of the 2014 Wolf Bus Lines Classic.
Grumley, the former Johnsonburg star who helped lead the Rams to the 2013 PIAA Class A championship game, was one of five Clarion players in double figures in their season opener.
Darius Stevens and Aaron Johnson had 20 points apiece for Clarion to lead all scorers.
“It’s a great start,” said first-year Clarion coach Marcess Williams said. “With the late change and unstableness because of it, to be able to come out and compete and beat another Division II team is satisfying for the kids. For the staff, it lets us know what we are doing, we are going down the right path.”
Williams became the first Clarion coach to win his debut since Joe DeGregorio beat Alliance, 84-79 on Dec. 4, 1974.
Clarion will meet Georgian Court today at 3 p.m.
