After Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Fort LeBoeuf, Bradford girls soccer coach Dennis Morrisroe said, “I’m excited about where these girls are taking us.”
Tuesday, they can take claim of a District 10 Region 4 championship with a win over Oil City.
The Lady Owls are 10-4-1 overall, including 5-0-1 in their last six games and 6-0 in Region 4.
Warren, at 4-1-1 in Region 4 play, poses the only threat, but Bradford is in control of its own destiny.
They have gotten steady play from forward Arianna Brien to keeper Payton Llewellyn and everybody in between during their recent stretch and are certainly peaking at the right time.

After taking care of business Monday against Titusville, the Bradford High boys soccer team set up a showdown with Warren on Wednesday at Parkway Field in a game that will determine the Region 4 champion.
The Dragons hold a one-game lead over the Owls in region play, but Bradford won the first head-to-head meeting, 1-0 in double overtime at Warren to earn them the tiebreaker edge should they win Wednesday.

It was a big week for the Port Allegany boys soccer team last week.
Following a dramatic 3-2 double-overtime win over Coudersport to capture the Upper Allegheny Valley Soccer League title, the Gators defeated Brockway 1-0 on Thursday in a rematch of last season’s District 9 Class A championship game.
Port has one game remaining in the regular season before turning its attention to the District 9 playoffs, where they will look to get back to where they were last year.
Their final game of the regular season is Saturday, as they travel to Bradford for a 1 p.m. contest. The game was not on the original schedule but was added after Bradford did not play its scheduled game with DuBois last week.

There will be a Fuhrman roaming the sidelines for the Bradford High boys basketball program this season.
No not Dave, but his son, David “Pug” Fuhrman will join head coach Brian Hobbs’ staff as an assistant after being approved by the Bradford Area School Board during its monthly meeting on Monday.
Dave Fuhrman compiled a record of 340-171 in 20 seasons as the Owls head coach from 1990-2010, including 11 District 9 titles.
Other coaches approved at Monday’s board meeting were Geraldine Lacney (varsity girls basketball volunteer coach), Randy Ruffner Sr. (varsity girls basketball volunteer coach) and Matt Ostrander (wrestling volunteer coach).

Things are going down to the wire in North Tier League volleyball action.
Port Allegany, at 10-1 in league play, holds a slim 1/2 game lead over Coudersport (10-2), with Smethport checking in at 8-3 and Oswayo Valley 7-4.
Port and Coudy meet on Oct. 20, the final week of the regular season, in a match that could very well determine the league champion.

I’m guessing most of you have heard by now about Warren’s 79-78 football win over Meadville on Friday.
The game featured two 300-yard rushers — Warren’s Kyle Kulka and Meadville’s Journey Brown, as well as a school record 49-yard field goal by Warren’s Ryan Shattuck.
Ironically, in a game that featured 1,554 yards of combined offense, it was the Dragons’ defense that came up with a stop with Meadville inside their 20-yard line to preserve the win.
The game came 10 years after Warren’s 52-45 win over Meadville in six overtimes in 2004, the longest game in PIAA history, which has since been tied. That game also shows my age, as I was part of it as a player.
This past Friday’s game between the two schools received a lot of attention both regionally and nationally, including being picked up by national media outlet Deadspin.
