TITUSVILLE — With a week off between games and a showdown looming Wednesday, there was no letdown from the Bradford High boys soccer team against Titusville Monday.
In a game that saw John Obermeyer break the school record for assists, the Owls took care of the Rockets 7-0.
Obermeyer came into the game tied with Steve Butler and Cody Bly for the assists record with 35 and broke it Monday on the first of two helpers, giving him 37 for his career.
The Owls, who led 4-0 at halftime, also got a hat trick from Ben Jordan, who also added an assist, as well as goals form Mitch Forbes, Travis Gleason and Todd Smith.
Smith and Eric Degolier also added assists.
“I felt we played a decent game today,” said Bradford coach Wes Lohrman. “We possessed the ball well and everybody did what I asked them to do.”
Jordan’s hat trick marked the seventh time this season he has scored at least three goals in a game. He now has 39 total for the season, as the Owls swept the season series from Titusville.
“We had a couple of mental breakdowns that might have occurred because we had some defensive players who had on offensive taste in their mouth today,” Lohrman said. “We were able to recover easily, but it still gave Titusville a look at the net.”
Bradford’s Cody Hennard made four saves in notching his ninth shutout of the season, while Khalib Abu-Saleh had 12 saves for the Rockets.
Meanwhile, up the road in Meadville, the Warren Dragons also took care of business, defeating the Bulldogs 6-0.
That sets the stage for Wednesday’s game at Parkway Field between the Owls and the Dragons, which will decide the Region 4 championship.
The Dragons own a 1-game lead in the standings, but Bradford has the tiebreaker after a 1-0 double-overtime win earlier in the teams’ first meeting this season.
“That’s the way a season should end,” Lohrman said of the upcoming game with Warren.
