BOLIVAR, N.Y. — Meghan Stuck’s successful penalty kick with just 16 seconds remaining lifted Bolivar-Richburg to a 2-1 victory over Port Allegany in girls soccer action on Thursday.
B-R was protecting a 1-0 lead after Devan Glover scored in the first half, but Somer Buchsenschutz tied the score at 1-1 with a Gators’ goal early in the second half.
That set the stage for Stuck’s game-winner late in the contest.
“Both teams had break-aways; in fact we had six of them but only scored on one,” said Travis Cowburn, Port Allegany coach. “Bolivar-Richburg is well coached and very disciplined.”
In goal for Bolivar-Richburg was Allison Pacer with seven saves, while protecting the net for the Lady Gators was Laura Fox with four saves.
“Both teams played well in the heat and we were able to stick with them, but just were not able to put it away,” Cowburn noted.
Port Allegany, now 2-2, hosts Elk County Catholic on Monday.
