LINESVILLE — Bradford High girls soccer coach Dennis Morrisroe’s concerns about playing in a new District 10 region this year were unfounded.
His visiting Lady Owls went on a first-half scoring blitz to crush Conneaut 5-0 on Thursday in their region debut.
“It took us a little while to get going, but then we scored in the 15th, 19th and 21st minutes,” Morrisroe stated. “That was nice, three goals right there in an eight to nine minute window.”
Bradford added its fifh goal in the second half, but by then the outcome was all but decided.
Five Lady Owls scored goals in the game – Arianna Brien, Lindsey Leet, Taylor Yohe, Bri Pattison and Kaitlyn Shield.
Brien, Shield (2), Ashlyn Morrisroe (2) and Courtney Shade were all credited with assists.
Payton Llewellyn was in goal and recorded three saves, while getting credit for the shutout.
“It was awful nice to have Payton in goal,” Coach Morrisroe noted. “She got hurt early on in the season and it was nice for her to get back between the pipes and get a shutout. It was good to watch her back there.
“Our defense was able to impose their will tonight,” the Lady Owls coach continued. “We’ve been working all week on keeping the ball in our opponent’s half (of the field). We were able to get our midfielders and defenders involved in the scoring. We were also able to control the midfield again, which we did very well last Friday, but not on Saturday.
“It was a nice team win for us. It will take us a little while to get consistent, but it’s a great win and it was a fantastic team effort,” he added.
In the junior varsity game, Bradford posted a 3-0 win led by Ashton McGriff with two goals and an assist and Aurora Mager with a goal. Brooke McGriff was the winning goalie.
Bradford (2-1) returns to action Monday, hosting General McLane.
