EMPORIUM — Bradford’s Erin Pecora battled back from a rough start Tuesday to shoot a 46, edging Cameron County’s Kendyl Guisto, who shot a 48, for medalist honors as the Lady Owls picked up a 33-22 win Thursday at Emporium Country Club.
“Erin picked it up real quick,” said Bradford coach Judy Abbey. “She has a good mental understanding of the game and I was really pleased with her being down and coming back.”
Guisto’s round of 48 was a career-low.
“Kendyl’s score was very nice,” said Cameron County coach Ben Porkolab. “It was the first time she’s been in the 40s and now she knows she has the skill set to do it.”
Bradford’s Bry Stahlman (51), Bri Wells (52) and Makayla Belser (53) were all within one-stroke of each other, while Cameron County’s Susie Guisto followed with a 57.
“This is the first time for Makayla to play in matches and she has improved so much. She’s picked up the game and has worked really hard to be one of the top players,” Abbey said. “Bry continues to be very consistent and Makensi (Belser, who shot a 62), this was her first time winning points this year. She’s worked very hard to get to the point where she can be in the starting lineup.”
Added Porkolab: “The girls keep making progress and everyone has improved from the first match, so that’s all I can ask for.”
Bradford, now 2-0, returns to action Monday, hosting Smethport at Pennhills, while Cameron County (0-2), is at Kane Tuesday.
