COUDERSPORT — Fresh off a third-place finish in the Punxsutawney Invitational Monday, the Bradford boys golf team did even better Thursday, capturing the Coudersport Invitational team title at the Coudersport Golf Club.
The Owls finished with a team score of 251, followed by Elk County Catholic (258), who edged them by three-strokes Monday and Mansfield (260).
Cameron County’s Paul Etchepare captured the individual title, carding a 76, followed by Coudersport’s J.T. Maynard, second with an 80, an identical result to his effort in Punxsy Monday.
Bradford’s Evan Piganelli was third with an 81, followed by Mitch Faulkner, who finished fourth with an 83 following a playoff tiebreaker. The Owls’ Brayden Snyder followed with an 87.
“Evan played a great round shooting an 81. He had one eagle and two birdies,” said Bradford coach Travis Faulkner. “He did everything right considering we haven’t seen this course before. I was really happy with his third-place finish. Mitch was consistent, but not where he wants to be. Brayden had one birdie and came through with a 40 on the back nine, which really helped us win the team title.”
Bradford’s Matt Moonan and Matt Austin also teed it up, carding a 92 and 101 respectively.
“They are getting better,” Faulkner said. “They both had a good nine holes and they’re trying to put together a full 18.”
Tomorrow’s Bradford-Elk County Catholic match (1 p.m., Pine Acres) should provide plenty of intrigue after both squads traded spots in the first two invitationals of the season.
“It’s going to be a good match,” noted Faulkner.
