The Bradford Pet Shop on East Main Street has added another veterinarian to its staff, and has been able to expand its office hours and provide additional outpatient services and in-house laboratory work, officials said.
Dr. Derek Schimp from Port Allegany joined the Bradford office and Haskell Valley Veterinary Clinic in Olean, N.Y., this month.
Schimp attended Gannon University in Erie for his undergraduate studies, and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine this year.
He joins Drs. Jennie Dahar and Emily Lucas on staff at both locations.
Dahar is from Hinsdale, N.Y., and attended St. Bonaventure University in Allegany, N.Y., for her undergraduate studies. She graduated from the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2013. Dahar joined the Haskell Valley Veterinary Clinic in June of 2013 and the Bradford Pet Stop last November, when that office opened for business.
Meanwhile, Lucas is from Youngstown, Ohio, and attended Youngstown State University for her undergraduate studies. She graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University in 2013 and joined Haskell Valley Veterinary Clinic in January of 2013 and the Bradford Pet Stop last November.
Officials said with addition of Schimp to the medical team, the Bradford office has been able to expand the available office hour time, now taking appointments from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 5 p.m. — doubling the time available for caring for animals.
Also, officials said the staff is now able to do outpatient treatments which consist of routine visits for vaccines and wellness checks, as well as most medical problems. All in-house laboratory work can also be done in the Bradford office, as blood analyzers have been installed. Any animal in need of emergency care consisting of surgery, radiographs or hospitalization will continue to need to have care provided at the Haskell Valley Veterinary Clinic at this time.
All the vets available in Bradford are also working out of the Haskell Valley Veterinary Clinic, in addition to Drs. Richard Payne and Tane Wiseman at the Haskell Valley site.
