Ten swimmers from the Bradford YMCA Barracudas traveled to
Cleveland over the weekend to attend the Robert Busbey Invitational. Forty-five teams from NY, Ohio and Pennsylvania participated. The Barracudas placed 16th overall and the girls finished in eighth place. This was a USA swimming sanctioned swim meet.
Paige Hetrick was awarded the high point award for the 11-12 year old girls. She swam 9 events over the 3 days and took 1st in the 200 meter free (2:16.11), 50 meter free (29.06), 100 meter free (1:02.65), 100 meter back (1:11.69), 50 meter back (33.09), and 200 meter back ( 2:35.44). She was second in the 400 meter free (4:52.24), and 3rd in the 50 meter breast (38.10) and 50 meter fly (32.66).
Laryssa Webster placed in several events, also swimming nind events over the three days. She was 9th in the 200 meter free (2:45.66), eighth in the 100 meter free (1:16.90), sixth in the 50 meter fly (38.09) and seventh in the 100 meter fly (1:31.16).
Emma Webster placed 6th in the 200 meter back (2:52.04) dropping 14 seconds off her previous best.
For the boys, Tyler Sortore placed fifth in the 200 meter IM (2:43.32), eighth in the 100 meter free 1:07.87and fifth in the 100 meter fly (1:14.71). Karl Gangloff took 9th in the 400 meter free dropping 35 seconds from his previous best (5:16.75).
There were best times performed by all the swimmers from the team. Many members of the group had terrific time drops in all their events.
The team will be traveling to Buffalo this coming weekend to take part in the STAR Invitational. They will end their season the first weekend in August by attending the Niagara Long Course Championships in Buffalo, N.Y. Other swimmers who attended the meet were Aliya Webster, Mallory Whitlow., Morgan Whitlow, Julia Moini, and Mitchell Signor.
