The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, in collaboration with Allegheny Underwater, will offer a scuba diving course from 5:30 to 9 p.m. June 17-July 15 in Room 165 C in the Richard E. and Ruth McDowell Sport and Fitness Center and the Paul C. Duke Aquatic Center on campus.
Students will learn the basics of scuba diving through the Professional Association of Diving Instructors open water scuba diver course.
Organizers said students will learn basic scuba skills taught in a classroom setting and in confined open water dives in a pool. Four open water dives will be held to review skills and explore on two additional days. Students must be 18 years old and comfortable in the water.
The course includes a textbook, dive computer, student record and log book packed in a crew kit. Students will be required to provide their own mask, fins and snorkel for the class and should contact the instructor, Greg Souchik at Allegheny Underwater at 181 Main St. in Bradford at 814-362-2642, prior to the class regarding this.
Tanks, regulators, gauges and buoyancy compensators are provided for all pool sessions. Upon completion of the program, each student will receive a “PADI Open Water Diver Certification Card” enabling them to dive almost anywhere in the world.
