SMETHPORT — Port Allegany ended Smethport’s unbeaten run to start the season, beating the Lady Hubbers 9-2 Monday.
Brooke Roys starred on the mound and at the plate, striking out 11 and adding three hits for the Lady Gators.
It was the first game in over a week for Smethport (8-1) and it showed, according to coach Jim Kane.
“Port Allegany played very well and we didn’t match their intensity,” he said. “You could tell the layoff had an effect, but I don’t want to take anything away from Port Allegany. They came ready to play, made some fantastic plays in the field and strung some key hits together.”
They also took advantage of seven Port Allegany errors, as Kaylee Ernst had a pair of hits, including a double and Sam Metzger also had two hits.
Roys allowed just four hits, walked one and hit three batters.
“She pitched very well,” Kane said.
Brooke Kane-Walker started for Smethport and was relieved by Dynah Kimble. The duo allowed 11 hits, struck out four and walked three.
Torri Johnson had a pair of hits for Smethport and Sarah Vinca doubled
Both teams are back in action Wednesday, Port Allegany hosting Northern Potter and Smethport traveling to Otto-Eldred.
