TAMPA, Fla. – St. Bonaventure’s Josh Stauffer finished third and the Bonnies placed eighth as a team at the 2014 Atlantic 10 Golf Championship at TPC Tampa Bay.
Stauffer, from Bradford, Pa., entered the final round with a one-stroke lead. He shot a seven-over par 78 Sunday for a 54-hole total of 218 (+5). The sophomore was two over par for his first nine holes but played the final six holes five over.
Richmond’s Danny Pizetoski won the A-10 title and the accompanying berth in the NCAA Regionals, shooting a final round 70 to finish at two-under 211. He was the only player to break par for the Championship. Rocky Khara of VCU was second at 215 followed by Stauffer and David Germann of Richmond at 218.
The Bonnies posted their best score of the tournament, 312, but could not move up in the standings from where they started the day. St. Bonaventure’s total of 949 bettered ninth place Fordham (967) and last place LaSalle (976). Saint Joseph’s finished 15 shots ahead of the Bonnies for seventh place.
The Bonnies’ other three counting scores Sunday were 74 from sophomore Darren Simons (Saint Marys, Pa.), 78 from senior Chris Mackey (Bradford, Pa.) and 82 from sophomore Patrick Milkovich.
Senior Scott Brady (Olean, N.Y.) shot 84. Simons was the Bonnies’ next lowest finisher for the A-10 Championship, tying for 37th at 240 (81-85-74). Milkovich finished at 246 (84-80-82) and tied for 41st. Mackey ended at 247 and Brady at 254.
VCU won the A-10 Championship by a single shot over Richmond, 878-879. George Washington was third at 904 followed by Dayton (917), George Mason (922) and Rhode Island (923).
