ST. MARYS — A few street closures highlight next week’s work on the Million Dollar Highway (Route 255) construction project in St. Marys, according to Pennsylvania Department of Transportation officials.
The project stretches from the Tractor Supply Co. intersection to Route 120/State Street in the city.
PennDOT officials said crews will begin working at 7 a.m. Monday and continue through Friday morning. Work will be performed 24 hours a day.
During nighttime hours, the highway will be restricted to one lane northbound and one lane southbound between Vine and State streets (Route 120) for the installation of storm drainage pipe. During daytime hours, State Street (Route 120) will be restricted to one lane between South St. Marys Street (Route 255) and Rock Street for paving and line painting. Flaggers will be in place to direct traffic. Expect traffic delays and congestion, PennDOT officials said.
During daytime hours, Route 255 will be restricted to one lane northbound and one lane southbound between Vine and State streets for the installation of sanitary sewer lines. PennDOT officials said Vine Street will remain closed between South St. Marys Street (Route 255) and Chestnut Street. Motorists are to follow the signed detour route. This portion of Vine Street will remain closed until further notice. The closure is required for the installation of a sanitary sewer line.
PennDOT officials said West Arch Street will continue to be closed between South St. Marys Street (Route 255) and Rock Street. Motorists are to follow the signed detour. This portion of West Arch Street will remain closed until further notice.
During daytime hours, the contractor will install sidewalk along State Street (Route 120).
Also during daytime hours, the contractor will pave previously disturbed areas on East Mill, Race, East Arch and Vine streets. Expect traffic delays and congestion.
All work is weather and schedule dependent. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving and stopped vehicles through the entire work zone. Motorists are advised to be cautious when traveling through the work zone and to obey the posted speed limit.
PennDOT officials said overall work includes pavement repair, drainage improvements, addition of a right-turn lane for Route 255 northbound traffic at Vine Street, re-alignment of the Arch Street intersection, a right turn lane on Route 120 east for traffic heading south on Route 255, and other construction items.
