PORT ALLEGANY — Cory Burr, Chad Gaines and Tre Garzel combined on a six-inning no-hitter as Port Allegany beat Portville 13-3 Thursday.
Burr went five innings and started the sixth, striking out five and walking three. Gaines went two-thirds of an inning, striking out one and walking three. Garzel came in with the bases loaded and two outs and notched a strikeout.
Offensively, the Gators (2-1), scored seven runs in the second inning and five in the sixth.
Chris Lashway and Garrett Talkington had three hits each, with Lashway collecting four RBIs and scoring a pair of runs. Tyler Shaffer also had three RBIs for Port.
Eight out of nine starters for the Gators recorded a hit.
“It was a real ‘we’ effort tonight,” said Port Allegany coach Nate Zitnik. “I was very happy all the way around. The guys didn’t use not being outside as an excuse.”
Justice Elliott started for Portville, going 3 1/3 innings, striking out two and walking three. Josh Hall came on in relief and struck out three and walked four.
The Gators have a busy week upcoming, starting with a home game with Otto-Eldred on Tuesday.
