It was a good start to the dual meet season for the Bradford High boys track team as Noah Whittemore, Zeshon Veite and Tyler Nuzzo helped lead the Owls to a 106-42 win over St. Marys on a picture perfect day Tuesday at Parkway Field.
“We had quite a few personal bests today and that is always good,” said Bradford coach Tom Tessena.
Whittemore dominated the sprints, winning the 100, 200 and 400 and was also part of the winning 1600 relay team which also featured Nuzzo, Justin Keller and Austin Johnson.
Veite was equally as impressive in sweeping the jumping events and also running anchor on the winning 400 relay team that also included Alex Colosimo, Mitch Vleminckx and Tim Schuster.
“Noah ran some great times today,” noted Tessena. “11.5 in the 100, 23.6 in the 200 and 56.2 in the 400 are very good times for early in the season. Zeshon looked very good in winning all three jumps.”
Nuzzo, meanwhile, in addition to being part of the 1600 relay team, easily won the 800 (5-second differential) and 1600 (4-second differential).
“Our distance guys ran well today,” Tessena said. “Anthony Uhl, Hunter Ackley, Dawson Ambrose, Paul True, Matt O’Brien, Manu Gajanan, John Higbie and Jake Sampson all showed improvement.”
Also taking home a pair of first-place finishers for the Owls were Steve Zawatski (javelin, discus), Dawson Ambrose (3200, 3200 relay), Johnson (1600 relay, 3200 relay) and Justin Keller (pole vault, 1600 relay).
“Brandon Hughes also had a personal best in the javelin (135’5’’) and Kyle Whitmer took second place in the shot put and had a PR in the discus (97’6’’),” noted Tessena. “Our 300 hurdlers, Alex Colosimo and Mitch Vleminckx, had their best times, running 45.5 and 46.9, respectively.”
In total, the Owls took first in 15 of the 18 events, and Tessena was pleased with a number of athletes.
“Jacob Soto had a second place in the pole vault (10’6’’) to go with his 4 x 100 relay leg,” Tessena noted. “Everyone did three or four events today and that is what it will take for us to be competitive.”
Bradford returns to action Saturday at the Brookville Invitational.
“We will find out more about ourselves Saturday,” Tessena said. “We are still moving people around to get the best out of all of them.”
