HERSHEY — Coudersport’s Kyle Bova and Kane’s Evan DeLong are both moving on to the Class AA semifinals at their respective weight classes in the PIAA wrestling championships at the Giant Center in Hershey.
At the 160 pound weight class, Bova, the No. 1 ranked wrestler in the state at his class, earned a 3-1 decision over No. 3. Jeric Kasunic of Benton Friday morning.
DeLong, meanwhile, who is also ranked No. 1 in the state at 170, earned a 13-6 win over Zane Black of Bishop McDevitt to advance.
Kane’s Cody Blankenship lost a tough quarterfinal decision at 126 to Grant Bond of Boiling Springs, 3-1.
Blankenship rallied in the second round consolations, pinning Joseph Davis of Cambria Heights in 2:23, while Sam Colebert of Oswayo Valley also won his second round consolation match, 1-0 over Max Reed of Lewisburg on an escape just before time expired in the third period.
With the wins, Blankenship and Colebert both assured themselves of reaching the medal stand.
Blankenship will wrestle Dante Albanese of Pius X in the third round consolations, while Colebert will square off with Kasunic.
The semifinal matches are scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Bova will face Briton Shelton of Bermudian Springs and DeLong Corey Hazel of Penns Valley.
The third round consolations will also start at 6:30 p.m., with the fourth round consolations at 9 p.m.
