A Bradford obstetrician/gynecologist accused of having inappropriate contact with two women was released Tuesday after paying $30,000 bail following his arraignment on Tuesday.
Dr. Abaz Sosic, 51, of Bradford, was arraigned Tuesday morning before Magisterial District Judge Dom Cercone on charges of indecent assault and harassment in two separate cases.
In one case, it’s alleged that he grabbed a female employee of his and made sexual remarks to her in January at his 54 Boylston St. office, and in the second it’s alleged that he inappropriately touched a woman in June 2012 at his office after she had an ultrasound at his office and was waiting for the images to be developed.
His wife, Samila, attended the court date with Sosic, sitting behind his attorney.
Cercone set bail at $15,000 bail in each of the two cases. Sosic is scheduled to appear at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in Central Court in Smethport.
As conditions of his bail, Sosic had to surrender his passport, and he is not to leave Pennsylvania or have contact with any of the alleged victims.
Sosic, an independent physician who worked from a private office, was not employed by Bradford Regional Medical Center, but he had medical privileges there. His privileges at the hospital were suspended after the charges were filed pending the result of the investigation.
Bradford City Police were granted a search warrant to retrieve documents and records at BRMC related to alleged actions by Sosic.
Additionally, the Pennsylvania Department of State suspended Sosic’s medical license, as he could present “an immediate danger to the public health and safety” if the criminal allegations are true. The suspension is pending the outcome of a hearing before the Board of Medicine or the Office of Hearing Examiners.
Attorney Robert Liebers of Jamestown, N.Y., who represented Sosic at Tuesday’s arraignment, said Sosic was not ready to comment to the press at that time. Liebers said attorney Philip Friedman of Erie would also be involved with Sosic’s defense.
