OK, let’s try this again.
School cancellations due to yet another snow storm caused the postponement of all opening round games in the District 9 Class A boys and girls basketball playoffs Tuesday, but fear not, they will be playing today.
As a refresher, the No. 6 Ridgway boys will host No. 11 Clarion, while on the girls side, No. 8 Smethport hosts No. 9 Brockway and No. 10 Cameron County travels to No. 7 Keystone.
Times remain the same for all but the Cameron County-Keystone matchup, which has been bumped up to 6 p.m. That game will also be live audio streamed on D9sports.com in conjunction with EYT Media Group.
So those game are on for tonight, as are the regularly scheduled Class AA games.
Also, with the Class A games being pushed back to today, it’s likely that the quarterfinal round won’t begin until Friday (Thursday had been a scheduled option for these games).
Here’s a look at the lone Class AA game involving a local team today, the Kane girls.
GIRLS
No. 2 Curwensville (15-7) vs. No. 7 Kane (12-12)
Location: St. Marys High School, 6 p.m.
The young Lady Wolves will be an underdog in seed only, as they own a pair of 11-point wins over Curwensville this season.
Kane, fresh off an appearance in the AML title game Saturday, has grown exponentially as the season has gone along.
Two freshman — point guard Kiley Kinney and forward Camryn Cummings, have been fixtures in the starting lineup this season, while another freshman, Alania Barner, has also been a staple in the rotation.
Junior forward Taylor Morgan leads the way for Kane, averaging, 11.0 points per game, with Cummings and Kinney second and third on the team in scoring at 8.1 and 7.5, respectively.
Senior Kelsey Johnson, as well as sophomore Sydney Dyne round out the starting lineup, while Katelyn Moran, Emily Hauser and Emily Truden have also been key fixtures.
They will be facing a Curwensville team that is led by District 9’s third-leading scorer, Ciara Strickland.
In the second meeting between the team’s this season — a 47-36 win by Kane on Feb. 17, Strickland scored 17 points, all in the first half. Coach Dave Kiehl noted the strong defense of Dyne and Johnson in the second half of that contest.
Tierra Shope is second for the Golden Tide in scoring at 7.9 ppg, while Hannah Dixon checks in at 6.6.
The winner will play the winner of the game between No. 6 Cranberry and No. 3 Clarion-Limestone in the semifinals at a site, date and time to be determined.
