Otto-Eldred’s Zach Williams and Smethport’s Jarod Hughes
headline this week’s Don Raabe Big 30 Charities Classic roster
additions.
Williams, 6-2, 220 pounds, was a tight end/defensive end for the
Terrors.
He will attend Penn State University in the fall to study civil
engineering.
Williams has been an Honor Roll student since the fifth grade.
His other honors include being a two-time AML All-Star, a Big 30
All-Star, the Most Valuable Defensive Player, the Most Valuable
Lineman and varsity football captain the last two years.
He wants to play in the Classic “to share memories with friends
in one last football game, so I can take them with me for the rest
of my life.”
Hughes, 6-2, 200 pounds, was a tight end/defensive end for the
Hubbers.
He plans on attending Penn State University to work toward a
double-major in toxicology and immunology and infectious diseases.
He plans to pursue a career in cancer research.
Hughes’ honors include being a 2009 AML All-Star, 2009 Offensive
MVP for his team, a National Honor Society Vice President and
co-captain in football and baseball.
“I want one last opportunity to strap the pads on and play — to
play one last time with a couple of my friends and teammates,”
Hughes said.
Joining Williams and Hughes on the Pennsylvania roster is Colter
Johnson of Warren.
Johnson, 6-4, 195 pounds, was a tight end/defensive end for the
Dragons.
He will attend Alfred State College and major in biological
science to become a wildlife biologist. He plans on playing
football and/or wrestle in college.
Johnson was a four-year letterwinner in football, track and
wrestling. He was a All Region first-team selection as a tight end
and defensive end. In addition, he was a 2008 Specialist MVP and a
three-year Iron Man winner.
“It’s an honor, and growing up I have always wanted to play in
such a great football game where it’s the best versus the best in a
cross-state rivalry,” Johnson said of playing in the Raabe
Classic.
Added to the New York roster were Alex Maben of
Allegany-Limestone, Zach Winship of Salamanca and Taylor Scott of
Bolivar-Richburg.
Maben, 6-5, 200 pounds, was a center/defensive end for A-L.
He will major mathematics, engineering or education in
college.
Maben received the Coaches’ Award and made the First-Team
All-Conference team. The scholar athlete is also a High Honor Roll
student.
Maben said, “The Big 30 is more than a football game, it is an
honor. I love football and this game will be the best way for me to
prove myself. I want to play in college, and this will be a big
step that I need.”
Winship, 6-0, 210 pounds, was a fullback/middle linebacker for
the Warriors.
His honors include being selected to the 2007 All League second
team as a linebacker, a 2008 and 2009 All League first-team
linebacker, winner of the 2008 Unsung Hero Award and 2009 Defensive
MVP.
“I want to play in the Big 30 game because ever since I was
little my dad and I have attended the games,” Winship noted. “I
always told him if I ever got the chance to play, then I was going
to play in this game.”
Scott, 5-11, 172 pounds, was a running back/cornerback for
B-R.
He will attend St. Bonaventure University in the fall.
“I want to play in the Big 30 game because it is a great honor
to be chosen to play and to take the field with the area’s best
football players,” Scott said.
