Two elderly folks lost a white envelope Dec. 24 on Main Street,
on the way to CNB Bank — but that only begins to describe their
problems.
Trudy Yohe, who resides at 1039 W. Washington St., said Monday
that the envelope contained more than $900 in cash and a deposit
slip adorned with the names and address of herself and her husband.
Almost immediately, Yohe rushed back to the part of the sidewalk
where she believed the envelope was lost, but it was nowhere to be
found.
“He uses a walker so he’s walking slower,” Yohe noted of her ill
husband.
“We’ve been having a really hard time anyhow, and now this
happened the day before Christmas. It was terrible”
She noted there were “quite a few people” on the street that
day. The couple had started its trip with a stop at Atlantic
Broadband to pay a cable bill, meaning the envelope was likely lost
between there and CNB. The Yohes had parked near The Grocery
Stretcher.
To make matters worse, Yohe said her husband has Alzheimer’s
disease and is severely diabetic.
“He said ‘Why are you crying?’ He doesn’t realize that we are
absolutely sunk without this (money).”
Yohe’s husband gets paid once a month via Social Security. The
couple has doctor’s appointments, prescriptions, bills, mortgage
and other financial obligations. The Yohes had to obtain a turkey
through a Salvation Army holiday program because “things have been
tough this year.”
And Yohe has her own health problems, as she found out just two
weeks ago that she has pancreatic problems. She is still awaiting
word on what that treatment could entail and how much it would
cost.
“We need some kind of big miracle,” Yohe said.
