KANE – A Mount Jewett man died in an alcohol-related crash at
12:15 a.m. Saturday on U.S. Route 219, just north of U.S. Route 6
in Hamlin Township.
Ian McCloskey, 24, died from injuries sustained in the crash,
according to Kane-based state police. He was pronounced dead at the
scene.
A car driven by Jason M. Roth, 21, of Mount Jewett, and a
sport-utility vehicle driven by Karianne James, 24, of Kane, were
traveling south on Route 219 when the car attempted to pass the
SUV. When returning to its lane, the car’s left rear hit the SUV’s
right front, according to police. The car then traveled off the
road to the east and rolled over, hitting several trees.
Police said neither McCloskey, a passenger in Roth’s car, nor
Roth were wearing seatbelts.
Police said Roth was taken by Mount Jewett Ambulance to Kane
Community Hospital for moderate injuries sustained in the crash. No
patient was listed under Roth’s name at the hospital Sunday,
according to a nursing supervisor.
Through the police investigation, Roth was determined to be
driving under the influence of alcohol, and charges are pending
with Magisterial District Judge Michael Kennedy of Kane, police
said.
The car had disabling damage and was towed from the scene,
police said. The SUV had minor damage and was driven from the
scene.
Police were assisted at the scene by the Mount Jewett, Kane,
Bradford and Lafayette Township fire departments and EMS. The Mount
Jewett Volunteer Fire Department responded with an engine, rescue
truck and two ambulances.
The Kane and Lafayette Township volunteer fire departments
assisted with traffic control by closing Route 219 at its
intersections with Route 6 at Lantz Corners and Route 59 by Tack’s
Inn.
