Friday night’s thunderstorm brought with it some damage across
the area.
Police radio reports indicated downed trees, downed power lines
and blocked roads across McKean County.
At 6:40 p.m., a line was reported down on West Corydon Street in
Bradford; at about 7 p.m., fallen trees pulled wires down in
Wetmore Township, and a tree was reportedly in the road on U.S.
Route 6 west of the Mount Jewett Borough.
Then, wires were reported down on Bayard and Kane streets in the
Kane Borough, and Kane police and fire department were called out
for additional traffic control.
At 7:20 p.m., a tree was reported down in Aiken, Keating
Township, blocking the road.
A tree was reported across the road at 7:24 p.m. at the
intersection of routes 446 and 46 in Farmers Valley, Keating
Township.
At 7:30 p.m., volunteers from the Star Hose Co. were called for
traffic control on Arnold Avenue near Willow Street for power lines
across the road. Shortly after that, volunteers from Norwich
Township were called out for a tree completely blocking the road on
Route 46 south of Crosby.
Between 7:30 and 8 p.m., on Route 59, crews were called to a
tree blocking both lanes of traffic just prior to the Black Bear
Campground. At 8 p.m., Corydon Township volunteers were called into
service on Route 321 north of Route 59, where multiple trees were
across the road.
Ludlow fire department was called out to respond to a tree
blocking the road near Wildcat Park about 8 p.m.
At 8:35 p.m., a tree was reported down across the road on Route
46 south of Betula in Norwich Township.
At 8:48 p.m., in Keating Township, a tree was reported down on
Lindholm Road near Ormsby, blocking the roadway.
Penelec representative Russ VanHorn explained lightning and wind
caused power outages, with an entire electrical circuit out in
Eldred. Approximately 750 customers were without power at 9:30
p.m., and VanHorn said crews would be working throughout the night
to restore it.
According to the First Energy Corp. Web site, some customers in
Bradford, Lewis Run, Port Allegany, Smethport and Westline were
also without power.
VanHorn could not estimate when power would be restored to all
customers.
At about 9 p.m., 63 customers of Allegheny Power in Kane and
Mount Jewett were without power, according to the company’s Web
site.
