A mass spring cleaning will commence around Bradford this
weekend as town-wide garage/yard sales will dot the area.
Beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, at least 60 households and several
business will be displaying their unwanted goods for those hunting
down deals.
“There is no closing time really, just however long people want
to stay open,” said Main Street Manager Diane DeWalt, whose group
is organizing the popular pasttime.
She explained that while 60 homes will officially take part in
the event, the activity won’t stop there.
“Generally, what happens,” DeWalt said, “is even more people
(interested in selling things) put (garage sale) signs out on that
day to take advantage of the fact that people are out ‘garage
saling.'”
There is one particularly unique entry into the official
listings this year.
“I have one multi-family, huge sale on Derrick Road (for which)
all proceeds will go to benefit St. Jude’s Kids,” DeWalt said.
Even bigger sales may occur at some of the area businesses
participating. According to DeWalt, locations include the Greater
Bradford Senior Activity Center, 60 Campus Drive; the Bradford Area
Public Library, 67 W. Washington St.; the Grace Lutheran Church, 79
Mechanic St.; and McKean County Right to Life.
DeWalt noted the event’s sign-up period is closed, but people
who want to frequent the sales can pick up a map at any
Bradford-area convenience store. They can also be found at the Main
Street Mercantile.
“They just need to pick up a map and go enjoy themselves,” she
said.
