RIDGWAY – An Emporium man died after hitting his head in a
mountain bike accident at 12:30 p.m. Thursday on Straight Creek
Road in Jones Township.
Thomas Kossman II, 34, was riding his mountain bike on a dirt
road, when for unknown reasons, the left peddle hit the road,
according to Ridgway-based state police.
Police said Kossman was unable to regain control of the bike,
which hit a pothole in the road, causing it to flip and throwing
Kossman to the road.
Kossman, who was not wearing a helmet or any safety equipment,
hit his head on the road, causing major head and neck trauma,
police said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by Elk County Coroner Lou
Radkowski.
